Women's health issues

Overview

On this page we have listed a sample of issues that affect women of all ages.  By no means is this an exhaustive list of “Women’s health issues” however, these are the more common ones we have worked with in recent times.  If you suffer from a condition that is not listed please contact us and we can discuss treatment options with you. Conditions appear in alphabetical order.  Follow this link for details of non-gender specific conditions and issues we have addressed

Endometriosis The endometrium is the lining of the womb; this enables a fertilised egg to attach itself to it during the menstrual cycle.  If there is no pregnancy, this lining will shed towards the end of the cycle.   Endometriosis is where the endometrial cells are found other than in the womb, i.e. ovaries or somewhere other than the womb.  The female hormonal cycle causes these cells to bleed, if these cells exist outside the womb, this can lead to scarred tissue and with repeated cycles the pain increases as will the damage caused by these cells.  In severe cases endometriosis can cause infertility, particularly if these cells are found on the ovaries.  A combination of therapies we offered (reflexology: both types and remedies) has been effective for both pain management and hormonal rebalancing.

Fibroids Many women have fibroids; fortunately for the majority they may not even be aware of them.   However for others it is a completely different story, some of us, these can be extremely painful, can cause heavy bleeding, abdominal pain, urinary and bowel problems, and in some cases have been linked to infertility and can result in miscarriages.  Fibroids are round lumps that can develop in women of all ages, though it is more prevalent in women aged over 35.  If you suffer from the symptoms you’d be advised to visit your GP for an assessment.  In our experience, we have noted a reduction in heavy bleeding and pain relief and stress management.

Menopause A time in a woman’s life when her menstrual cycle ceases, usually affects women aged around 50 years. Oestrogen production declines and changes in hormone levels can result in hot flushes; some women have decrease in sexual drive, while others report an increase!  Our therapies have reported a marked improvement on the emotional aspects as well as regulating extreme temperature shifts.

Miscarriage Follow this link for more detailed information.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)  A condition often mocked, but not funny when you are the one suffering.  The symptoms of PMS can vary widely: Physical: tender breasts, bloating, fluid retention, headaches, migraines, skin complaints. Psychological: irritability, depression, mood swings, being tearful etc. It is believed to be attributable to hormone fluctuations during the menstrual cycle, as well as low levels of serotonin.  Trials have shown that reflexology has achieved good results for sufferers, noted not only by the individual but also their family members too!

Pregnancy  Our other website has more information on pregnancy, how our therapies can help you through the various stages of pregnancy to help your body cope with the changes as well as encouraging your body to have a shorter, less complicated and more efficient labour. Also, there are treatment plans for helping turn breech babies, natural options to induce labour once past your due date etc.
